Early Childhood Education Programs

PreKindergarten (PreK) Program
Putnam County Schools offers a Preschool Program for children who are four years of age by September 30 of the current school year.   These programs are available at the following schools: Burks Middle School, Cane Creek Elementary, Jere Whitson Elementary, Northeast Elementary, Park View Elementary, Prescott Central Middle, Sycamore Elementary, Uffelman Elementary, and Upperman High School.   Applications to attend a preschool class are available at the above schools and at the Putnam County Board of Education office.

A preschool class for three year olds who are English Language Learners is available at Burks Middle School.  

Enrollment Eligibility

  • The child turns 4 years old by September 30th
  • The family is income eligible for free/reduced price meals at school
  • The child has an IEP (Individual Education Plan) and the team determines placement in the Pre-K program appropriate
  • The child is in state or foster care
  • Other extenuating circumstances (determined on an individual basis)

    After all eligible children have been placed in Prek classrooms, we may have an open enrollment period in which children will be served on a first come basis.

Employee Daycare Program
Employee daycares are available for the children of Putnam County School Employees and students.  Ages 6 weeks to 4 years of age are cared for at Prescott Central Middle School’s Prescott Pups.  Applications are available at each site and at Putnam County Board of Education office.
