Adult Education

What we can do for you

GED CLASSES:

Adults receive instruction in the five GED test areas:  Writing, Social Studies, Science, Literature and Math.  Instruction is also provided in Work and Life skill areas; parenting, reasoning, listening, teamwork, work place, problem solving, and critical thinking.

Graduation ceremonies offered.

Cost:    Free

EVEN START CLASSES:

Parents, who have a child below the age of eight, attend classes and bring their children.  Adults prepare for the GED exam (see GED Classes above) and learn child development and parenting skills.  Graduation ceremonies offered.

FAMILIES FIRST CLASSES:

Adults, who are referred by a DHS caseworker, attend classes 20 hours per week to prepare for the GED exam and learn job skills.  UCHRA can help with transportation and childcare. Graduation ceremonies offered.

WORK FORCE CLASSES:

Employees attend GED classes at their place of employment.  Classes can be designed to meet employers’ needs.

ESOL CLASSES:

Adults attend classes to learn English as a Second Language.  Beginning and advanced classes available at various locations.

Cost:    Free

ADULT READING PRIVATE VOLUNTEERS:

Adults learn to read with the assistance of a volunteer.  Privacy is assured with this program.  Students and volunteers meet at a convenient time and location.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION SIGN LANGUAGE CLASSES:

Adults can learn basic and advanced sign language skills.  Classes are available at various times during the year.

COMPUTER CLASSES:

Adults can learn basic and intermediate computer skills.  Classes are available at various times during the year.

Cost:    Fee required

SPANISH CLASSES:

Adults can learn the basics of the Spanish Language.  Classes are available at various times during the year.
