Board Approves changes to 2011-2012 school year calendar

At last night's regular monthly meeting, the Putnam County Board of Education voted to approve the following changes to the current (2011-2012) school year calendar:

Tuesday, May 22, 2012: changed to a non-student attendance day -- Professional Development Day for all certifed staff; standard workday for all support staff (duties/tasks as assigned by an immediate supervisor).

Wednesday, May 23, 2012: changed to a non-student attendance day -- Professional Development Day for all certifed staff; standard workday for all support staff (duties/tasks as assigned by an immediate supervisor).

All other days in the approved 2011-2012 school year calendar remain unchanged.

The updated summary of the final week of the 2011-2012 school year is as follows:

MONDAY May 21, 2012 FULL INSTRUCTIONAL DAY (Final Full Instructional Day of the school year)
TUESDAY May 22, 2012 Professional Development Day (Non-attendance day for students)
WEDNESDAY May 23, 2012 Professional Development Day (Non-attendance day for students)
THURSDAY May 24, 2012 Teacher Administrative Day (Non-attendance day for students)
FRIDAY May 25, 2012 Last day of the 2011-2012 school year; 10:00 AM Dismissal

Due to the increased level, scope, and frequency of professional development required for our teachers and administrators, a request to allow the use of available stock-piled days for the purpose of targeted professional development for all certified staff was submitted to Mr. Kevin Huffman, TN Commissioner of Education (in accordance with TN statute and TN State Board of Education Policy).

The request to allow the use of two (2) stockpiled days was approved by the Commissioner on Wednesday, May 2, 2012. School Board action was required to approve and finalize the changes to the approved 2011-2012 school year calendar (as noted above).
